E-Bike Safety Education Expands as FVPD Prepares to Host Training at Fulton Middle School

E-bike safety continues to be a priority for Fountain Valley School District (FVSD), where partnerships with local law enforcement have helped students and families access safety education for years. At last week's Superintendent's Parent Council (SPC) meeting, officers from the Fountain Valley Police Department (FVPD) joined district leaders and PTA/PTO presidents to share an exciting next step: FV Police Department is preparing to host its first community E-Bike Safety Training on Saturday, January 9, 2027, at Fulton Middle School!

Building on Years of Partnership

With approximately one-third of FVSD students residing in Huntington Beach, the district has long partnered with the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) to connect families with its popular youth e-bike safety clinics.

HBPD has been at the forefront of youth e-bike safety education nationwide, offering Saturday training clinics since 2022. These hands-on sessions have provided FVSD students and parents with valuable instruction on traffic laws, safe riding practices, and responsible e-bike ownership. We appreciate the many FVSD families who have participated in these increasingly popular classes over the years!

Building on this successful model, HBPD Officer Mike Thomas founded VoltVerified, a California nonprofit that brings together law enforcement, educators, healthcare professionals, and other community partners to promote safer riding through education and hands-on training.

An important part of VoltVerified's mission is helping neighboring law enforcement agencies establish their own community training programs, expanding access to consistent, high-quality e-bike safety education throughout the region.

Bringing E-Bike Safety Training to Fountain Valley

FVSD has continued working with both police departments to expand local training opportunities for our students and families. Now, thanks to the commitment of FVPD's team, five Fountain Valley officers have completed training through VoltVerified and are ready to bring this program to more of our community.

This represents an exciting expansion of the safety education already available to FVSD families, with Fountain Valley now preparing to offer its own training alongside the established HBPD program.
