FVSD Celebrates 150 Years of Excellence and Community Partnership at State of the Schools Breakfast

Community members, city leaders, business partners, and dedicated supporters from across Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach recently gathered for a special State of the Schools Breakfast, hosted in partnership with the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation. The event marked the highly anticipated return of the annual address following a five-year hiatus and officially kicked off the Fountain Valley School District’s (FVSD) 150th Anniversary celebration.

The morning provided a unique platform for Superintendent Katherine Stopp, Ed.D., who joined FVSD in 2022, to deliver her first State of the Schools address to an engaged audience of local leaders and stakeholders.

Middle school choir students from Fulton, Masuda, and Talbert had a front-row seat to high-level performing arts thanks to a continued partnership between the Fountain Valley School District and the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD).

Students were invited to Huntington Beach High School’s historic theater for a special teaser performance of the Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) production of The Phantom of the Opera. Following the performance, students took part in a backstage walkthrough, giving them an insider’s view of set design, production management, and the work required to put on a full-scale musical.

E-bike safety continues to be a priority for Fountain Valley School District (FVSD), where partnerships with local law enforcement have helped students and families access safety education for years. At last week's Superintendent's Parent Council (SPC) meeting, officers from the Fountain Valley Police Department (FVPD) joined district leaders and PTA/PTO presidents to share an exciting next step: FV Police Department is preparing to host its first community E-Bike Safety Training on Saturday, January 9, 2027, at Fulton Middle School!

Building on Years of Partnership

With approximately one-third of FVSD students residing in Huntington Beach, the district has long partnered with the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) to connect families with its popular youth e-bike safety clinics.

HBPD has been at the forefront of youth e-bike safety education nationwide, offering Saturday training clinics since 2022. These hands-on sessions have provided FVSD students and parents with valuable instruction on traffic laws, safe riding practices, and responsible e-bike ownership. We appreciate the many FVSD families who have participated in these increasingly popular classes over the years!

Building on this successful model, HBPD Officer Mike Thomas founded VoltVerified, a California nonprofit that brings together law enforcement, educators, healthcare professionals, and other community partners to promote safer riding through education and hands-on training.

An important part of VoltVerified's mission is helping neighboring law enforcement agencies establish their own community training programs, expanding access to consistent, high-quality e-bike safety education throughout the region.

Student creativity and environmental stewardship took center stage at last Tuesday night’s Fountain Valley City Council meeting, where district students were formally honored for their achievements in the annual Water Awareness Poster Contest.

The contest is a collaborative partnership between the Fountain Valley School District, the City of Fountain Valley, and the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC). Designed to educate youth on environmental sustainability, the competition invited students to explore water conservation through visual art based on the 2026 theme, "Water Connects Us All."
