Laurie Ferri » Welcome

Welcome

My name is Laurie Ferri and I am a School Psychologist for FVSD. I’ve had the pleasure of working for FVSD for 22 years, starting my career as an intern. I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree from CSULA in Recreation and Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. I worked as a Recreation Therapist for 10 years servicing a wide variety of patients from physical disabilities to mental illness and substance abuse. My experience in recreation therapy included employment at a psychiatric rehabilitation facility and in a hospital behavioral health program where I worked with adults and adolescents in both settings. The field of psychology had always been an area of interest for me and following my recreation therapy career, I decided to delve further into the field. I had a passion for working with children and found that I was successful in developing good rapport and working relationships with the children and adolescents I came in contact with. I decided to return to school to study school psychology; I received my Masters of Science degree in Counseling and a credential in Pupil Personal Services from CSULB. I was accepted to do my internship here in Fountain Valley and then was extremely fortunate to get hired as a School Psychologist following my internship. As a School Psychologist, my job includes, but is not limited to assessment for special education, behavior analysis, consultation with teachers and parents, individual/group counseling and crisis counseling and intervention. Each school has its own milieu which often times renders different needs for new programs to develop and become involved in. I’ve worked at just about all of the schools in the district; currently at Oka and Talbert, and have been grateful for the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of students and a dedicated, professional staff. My passion for working with children continues to be strong and I’m excited for the constant learning experiences that are presented to me on a daily basis working with these students.
